Aspecten Mac software, aspect by aspect

Aspecten

Terms of service

Aspecten is a personal catalogue of Mac software, written and maintained by Pieter de Wit. By using the site you agree to these terms. They are written in plain English and exist to keep the place useful and civil.

Commenting

You are welcome to leave comments under any program page. Please keep remarks relevant, factual and respectful. A few hard rules apply:

Every comment is held for moderation before it appears on the site. As the author you will see your own comment marked “awaiting moderation” until it is approved. I decline or remove comments that break the rules above; I may also remove a comment that is off-topic or unconstructive, and I do so without entering into debate. Repeated infringements will get your account suspended.

Accounts

You can browse the whole catalogue without an account. A free account lets you save programs to your favourites, see on-site notifications when a saved program gets an update, and leave comments.

To register you need to provide a working email address. One account per person, please. Keep your password private; you are responsible for anything done through your account. If you suspect someone else has gained access, change your password straight away and let me know at [email protected].

I do not send marketing email, newsletters or promotional messages. The only emails you receive from Aspecten are account-related — a registration confirmation, or a password reset if you request one.

Third-party software and links

Every program listed on Aspecten is the work and property of its developer. Names, logos and trademarks belong to their respective owners. Listing a piece of software here does not imply any endorsement or partnership, and the developer remains the sole party responsible for supporting the application, handling bug reports and processing purchases. If something goes wrong with an app, please contact the developer directly — I cannot provide support for third-party programs.

Where I link to an external site, I do so in good faith at the time of writing. I am not responsible for the content or safety of pages I do not control.

How the catalogue works

Each program page shows the version I last checked, file size, compatibility information and install notes. I keep older builds listed where they remain useful for people running older versions of macOS.

The catalogue reflects my own notes, gathered aspect by aspect — interface, workflow, compatibility. It is not a guarantee that a particular program will run on your Mac. System configurations vary, and a version that works on one machine may behave differently on another. Before you buy or rely on a piece of software, check the developer’s own compatibility documentation and test on your own setup.

Changes to these terms

I may update these terms from time to time — for example, if the site gains a new feature that needs covering. When I make a change I update this page and note the revision at the bottom. By continuing to use the site after a change, you accept the revised terms. If a change is significant I will place a short notice on the site for a reasonable period.

Copyright in the site texts

All the written content on Aspecten — the program notes, descriptions and catalogue structure — is my own work and is protected by copyright. You may quote a short excerpt with a clear credit and a link back to the original page, but you may not reproduce whole pages or substantial sections without my written permission. Screenshots and program icons belong to their respective copyright holders and are shown here for informational purposes.

Moderation

I moderate comments to keep the discussion clean and trustworthy. I can decline a comment before it appears, or remove one that was previously approved, without being obliged to explain the decision or enter into correspondence about it. I act in good faith and apply the rules evenly, but I do not offer an appeals process.

No warranty and limitation of liability

Aspecten is a personal research notebook made public. I put care into getting facts right, but I offer the information as-is, without warranty of any kind. I am not liable for any loss or damage that arises from your use of the site — whether that is a program that does not work as expected, a missed update, an incompatibility, or anything else. Use your own judgement, back up your Mac, and verify details with the developer before installing or purchasing.

If you notice an error in a listing, I appreciate a quiet note to [email protected] and I will fix it as soon as I can.
