Aspecten
Copyright and takedown requests
Aspecten is a small, independent catalogue of Mac software, games and plugins. Every page is an aspect-by-aspect look at a single program — its interface, workflow, compatibility, version history and install notes. I write the notes myself and I keep older builds listed for people who run older versions of macOS. The site does not host software files; each program page links to the developer’s own site, and no files are stored on this server.
What this page covers
This page explains how to ask for the removal of material that you believe infringes your copyright, and how counter-notices work. It also describes how I handle repeated problems.
Copyright and catalogue content
The site contains factual catalogue records — version numbers, file sizes, compatibility notes — and short written evaluations. Most images are product screenshots that I take during testing. If you hold the rights to a program, an icon or a screenshot and you want it removed or changed, I ask you to send a clear notice to [email protected].
What a proper notice should contain
To act quickly, I need enough information to verify the claim. Please include each of these in your message:
- The full address (URL) of the page or pages on aspecten.org where the material appears.
- A description of the copyrighted work you believe has been infringed.
- Proof that you own the rights or are authorised to act on the owner’s behalf.
- Your full name, a working email address and, if you are representing an organisation, your role.
- A good-faith statement that you believe the use is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent or the law.
- A statement that the information in the notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are authorised to act on behalf of the copyright owner.
- Your physical or electronic signature.
What happens after a valid notice
Once I receive a complete notice, I assess it against the page content. If the claim is clear and well-supported, I remove the material from the live site promptly. Depending on the situation I may replace a screenshot with a note, alter text or take down a whole page. I then reply to let you know what has been done. If the notice is incomplete, I will ask for the missing detail before I take any action.
Counter-notices
If material you contributed has been removed following a takedown request and you believe the removal was a mistake, you may send a counter-notice. Your counter-notice should identify the removed material, explain why you believe it does not infringe and include your contact details and a signed statement of good faith. On receipt of a valid counter-notice I will review the matter again and may restore the material unless the original complainant objects with further evidence.
Repeated problems
I keep a record of notices and counter-notices. If someone submits repeated unfounded or incomplete notices, I reserve the right to stop engaging with that correspondent on copyright matters. If a logged-in user repeatedly posts comments that draw valid infringement complaints, their account may be restricted or closed. The same applies to accounts created mainly to argue removal decisions in bad faith.
Questions that are not about copyright should go to the same address, [email protected]. I answer every genuine message, though I may take a little time because I read each one carefully.
